1. Our commitment
We believe access to education should not depend on how you use a computer. We work to make cantutor.ca perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for every visitor, and we treat accessibility as an ongoing obligation rather than a one-time project.
2. Conformance standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. WCAG 2.1 AA is the benchmark referenced by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and by United States Department of Justice guidance under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means most of the site meets the standard, and we are actively working on the exceptions listed below. We use this wording deliberately: we would rather tell you accurately where we stand than claim a level of conformance we have not audited end to end.
3. What we have done
Accessibility features currently built into this site include:
- A “Skip to main content” link, so keyboard users can jump past the navigation on every page.
- Semantic landmarks (
header, nav, mainandfooter) so assistive technology can move between regions of the page. - A logical heading structure on every page, with exactly one level-one heading.
- Full keyboard operability: every link, button, form field, and menu can be reached and activated without a mouse.
- A clearly visible focus indicator that meets the 3:1 contrast requirement, so you can always see where you are.
- Visible, correctly associated labels on every form field, with errors announced to screen readers as they occur.
- Text and interface colours that meet the WCAG AA contrast minimums (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and interface components).
- Text alternatives for meaningful images, and purely decorative images hidden from screen readers.
- Pinch-to-zoom and text resizing up to 200% without loss of content or function.
- Respect for the operating system’s “reduce motion” setting, animations and transitions are disabled when you have asked for that.
- The current page is announced in the navigation, and the mobile menu reports its open or closed state.
4. Known limitations
We are aware of the following areas that may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA, and we are working on them:
- Interactive map on the Locations page. The map is provided by a third-party component and may be difficult to operate with a keyboard or a screen reader. Every library location shown on the map is also listed as plain text on the same page with its full address, so no information is available only through the map.
- Stripe checkout. The payment step is hosted by Stripe and its accessibility is governed by Stripe. If you have trouble completing payment, contact us and we will arrange an alternative.
- Third-party documents. Any PDF or worksheet supplied by an external publisher may not be fully tagged for accessibility. We will provide an accessible alternative on request.
5. Alternative ways to reach us
You never have to use this website to become a CANtutor student. If any part of the site is a barrier, you can register, ask questions, or arrange payment entirely by phone or email:
- Phone: +1 437-438-2944
- Email: info@cantutor.ca
We will also provide any information on this site in an accessible format, or with communication support, on request and at no extra cost.
6. Feedback and complaints
If you encounter a barrier on this site, please tell us. Feedback is the fastest way we find problems.
Email info@cantutor.ca with the subject line “Accessibility”, or call the number above. It helps if you can tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology and browser you were using. But please get in touch even if you cannot provide those details.
We aim to acknowledge every report within two business days and to explain how and when we will address it. You may also send feedback through our contact form.
7. How this was assessed
This statement is based on an internal review of the site against WCAG 2.1 Level AA, covering semantic structure, keyboard operability, focus management, form labelling, colour contrast, and text resizing. It has not yet been validated by an independent third-party audit or by formal user testing with people with disabilities. We regard both as the next step.
